There is no doubt that a furniture dollar makes a valuable tool when you move home. This simple unit reduces the amount of work you need to do to make it easier for fewer people to move several large pieces of furniture in a short space of time.
If you are planning to move houses in the near future, but have never heard of a furniture dolly before, they are basically a square or rectangular piece of hardwood covered in a soft material to prevent scratches. Attached to the bottom of the board are four flywheels, each of which is positioned in different corners to provide an even weight balance.
Buying a furniture dollar is as easy as going down to your local home decor shop; there you will find many brands of different shapes and sizes. The average price range varies depending on the material it is made of and any extra special features included, although the standard types will be made of wood and cost under $ 100 each.
If you plan to move home yourself, you may need more than one piece of furniture to speed up the process. Instead of spending a couple of hundred dollars on 2-3 puppies that you will probably never use again, why not make your own? If you look around your garage quickly, you probably have all the material you need to make a furniture dolly or two. The base material for a single piece of furniture is an 18 "by 32" flat plywood board, a length of 2 x 4 planks, unused carpets, 4 swivel coils, several screws and some strong glue.
If you wanted to buy all the items needed to make a furniture dollar it would cost you under $ 100 from all home decor. Now that you have all the necessary materials, you can get started making your own dolly; If the flat plywood is not already 18 "by 32", you must cut it with either a hand saw or electric wheel saw.
The next step is to take the 2 x 4 plank and cut it into four separate parts, 2 of which will be 32 "long and the other 2 will be 10" long. These 4 pieces of the board must be screwed to one side of the plywood board along each side in a rectangular frame shape, first attaching the two 32 "lengths and then the 10" pieces to each end.
Now that you have the main frame and platform ready, glue a length of matte material along the flat side of the plate to cover the entire surface. Once it has dried, you can take your four swivel rollers and screw them into each corner to insert them at least 2.5 "from the edge, so the dolly can be tilted to fit under the furniture item that needs to be moved. If you want to to add extra maneuverability and make it possible to pull your furniture dolly, drill two 1/2 inch holes on each side of what will be the front of your dolly and thread a length of rope by tying it in the middle; this will act as a handle.
